WELCOME! - VERSION 3.1 * ENGLISH
Verona (Italy), Summer 1995.
Welcome! is a "LISTWARE" package: if you want its listing, please send me
your name, surname, address...and US $5.
BEFORE STARTING
Every kickstart version since 2.0 is well supported.
External libraries are not required.
WELL, WHAT DOES IT DO?
Welcome! is a utility which plays a sample (IFF 8SVX) or a protracker
module every loading of the Workbench.
The module has to be played by an external player which accepts the
`filename` from the SHELL. Well, to be easier, which you can manage via sell.
If you have ever wanted a more "human" computer which "greets" you every
time it "sees" you, that's the software you have been waiting for: you have
only to own a "Welcome guys" or "Welcome to Amiga system" sample or
similar, et voila'...
And it is also possible that a music module "stays" with you from the boot
of the machine.
THE PACKAGE
The package is made up of two files.
1) Welcome! proper is essentially a setup program which allows you to choose
the sound - voice or music, the volume an so on.
About the samples, there is the possibility of loading more than one: the
computer will play one of them, at random.
NOTE: if you run Welcome! from the Shell with the "MENU" keyword
[Welcome! MENU], the program will start in "menu control" mode (menu instead
of gadgets).
In any case, however, to test a sample or module you have just to click the
left mouse button on its gadget.
2) GoW! plays the sample.
I recommend you to put it into the Wbstartup drawer, so that it will be
always active at the boot.
To do so, just drag its icon into Workbench:Wbstartup directory.
1) WELCOME!
LOAD NEW loads sound data into memory or, if you choose
LOAD SETUP, the previous saved setup.
SAVE TO DISK saves the prefs,
ABOUT tells you who I am - yes, I know you don't mind...
RESET ALL resets everything,
TEST plays a sample or a module from disk, and
QUIT quits the program.
In this menu are also present some options for playing the sample in two or
four channels and for setting the volume.
By setting this at MIN, you will not make your neighbours bump from their
bad any more if you forget the volume of your monitor at maximum, during
the night!
The last option is about the filter (on-off).
The "To Player" gadget defines how the name of the module should be passed
to the external program: with or without "".
2) GOW!
It is about 8 Kbytes long (compressed) and, once you have setted up your
preferences with Welcome!, this will be the only file you need.
GoW! plays a sample or a module according to Welcome!'s last saved setup.
IMPORTANT!
1) The author (me) declines the responsibility for possible - but
VERY improbable - damages that the software could cause to the computer,
or to the binary items contained in it.
2) The utility plays the sample as it is: if you would like to change the
octave or the note, to create a boost or echo effect, you have to use a
tracker.
In the Amiga world there are many good trackers, like Protracker 2.x and
Octamed 5, which are a looot better than those on IBM PCs and COMPAny.
What a nice company! =;*)
3) SOUND DATA MUST BE IFF 8SVX FILES. IFF 8SVX IS THE OUTPUT FORMAT OF THE
TRACKERS JUST MENTIONED. AN ERROR WILL BE GENERATED IF THE FILE IS NOT IN
THE CORRECT FORMAT.

HISTORY
Version 1.0 - September 1994; the first release.
Version 2.1 - 1 December 1994; "multisample" feature added. Shorter code
(AslFileRequest$ command abandoned); 1 bug found and fixed.
Version 2.2 - Late December 1994; this release uses the opal font if present
in fonts: directory.
Other minor features added; among them the elimination of the System Request
if you try to call a non-existent device.
Version 3.0 - Summer 1995. New user's interface and some new improvements, as
the "samples default path" buffer.
Now it also works with modules - with the aid of an external player.
Version 3.1 - Summer 1995. Stupid bug fixed.
WELCOME! - VERSIONE 3.1 * ITALIANO
Welcome!
1) WELCOME!
Set1 o 2).
SAVE TO DISK salva le prefs,
ABOUT vi dice come mi chiamo. Che dite? Non ve ne puo' fregare di meno!?
Ah, come non detto...
RESET ALL torna ai valori originari, mentre
il gadget "To Player".
dati in esso contenuti.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome!3 è dedicato a
MONICA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sviluppato su Amiga 1200 HD120 2DD in Blitz Basic 2 V1.70.
Testato sul medesimo computer.
Nessun bug noto.
in assoluto(!): quindi perdonate qualche piccolo errore...
Welcome! 2.1 - Dicembre 1994. Multisample, codice ottimizzato, 1 bug
corretto.
Welcome! 2.2 - Dicembre 1994.
